SOUNDS OF JUSTICE & JOY

Sounds of Justice and Joy is a mixed ensemble, activist music education program that trains young people as artivists (artists-activists) and cultural workers.

Our healing-centered, trauma-informed, and culturally sustaining pedagogies based curriculum provide students with opportunities to:

  • Listen to, research & analyze music about themes of identity, peace, justice, safety, belonging, mental health, and social justice, among other topics

  • Explore music making through a variety of different musical styles and genres, choosing their preferred instruments such as guitars, drums, keyboards, etc, as well as singing,

  • Compose original songs that tell their own stories as a way to make their voices heard.

  • Present socially conscious musical performances for their communities in efforts to engage community members and stakeholders in a process of transformation.

We stand affirmed in the words of Toni Cade Bambara, that: “The role of the artist is to make the revolution irresistible!”
